List of Children

The children screen displays a list of children known to the Daybear application. You can select a child from the list to view or modify that child or scroll to the bottom of the list and select Add child... to create a new child.

The first time you launch the App two children - Jack Hill, and Jill Hill are already created as an example to get started.

Pressing Edit will allow you to delete children from the list (you can cancel the edit or press Done to commit the deletes). Another way to delete is to use a swiping gesture from right to left on the child to delete.

Add Child

When you select Add child... from the children list you are taken to a screen where you can define a new child. At the top there will be the options Cancel and Done. Selecting Cancel will back out without adding a new child. In order to select Done you must minimally define a first or last name to represent the child. Pressing either cancel or done brings you back to the children list.

Child Information

When you have a child selected you will see information about that child that has been entered into the app. If you want to modify the child's information you need to select Edit at the top (if you are adding a new child you will already be in edit mode).

Photo

When in edit mode you can tap the child's photo (or the add photo placeholder) to select a photo or to take a new one if your device has a camera. When you tap the photo you will be prompted to use the last photo taken, take a new photo or to choose a photo from the library. You can use the app to move and scale the photo before saving it to the child. Selecting Cancel cancels the photo selection.

First and Last Name

Use the first and last name fields to specify the child's name. A child cannot have both fields empty.

Primary Contacts

Primary contacts are people who are to receive reports about this child. For example the child's mother or father.

To specify a primary contact scroll to the bottom of the primary contacts section and select Add contact.... You will be prompted to select a new contact or an existing contact. Selecting a new contact will bring up a screen to define a new contact. Selecting an existing contact will bring up a screen to select from the existing contacts on the device. You may be prompted to allow Daybear to have access to the contacts first.

After you have selected a contact you will be prompted to specify the type of contact. For example: Dad, Mom, Guardian, Doctor etc. You can change the type of any contact after it has been defined by tapping the type while in edit mode.

You also can change a primary contact into a regular contact (one that does not receive daily reports from this child) by tapping and dragging the contact from the Primary Contacts section to the Contacts section.

Contacts

Contacts are people who have some important relation to the child but who do not receive daily reports. For example the child's doctor or perhaps an uncle/aunt.

To specify a contact scroll to the bottom of the contacts section and select Add contact....

You also can change a regular contact into a primary contact (one that does receive daily reports from this child) by tapping and dragging the contact from the Contacts section to the Primary Contacts section.

Allergies

The Allergies section lists any important allergies that the child has. To modify a child's allergies go into edit mode by tapping Edit at the top. Scroll down to the bottom of the allergies section and select Add allergies... to bring up the Allergies screen. When the app is launched for the first time there will be no allergies defined. To define a new allergy or remove a previously defined allergy press the Edit button at the top of the Allergies screen. Scroll to the bottom of the list and enter the allergy you want to add into the text field and press Add. Pressing Done completes the modification. This does not add the allergy to the child - it only adds to the list of allergies known to Daybear. To add the allergy to the current child tap it in the list so that a checkmark appears beside it. Tapping the allergy a second time will remove the checkmark (and remove it from the child).

Note: In both the Child screen and the Allergies screen you can use a right to left swiping gesture to delete. On the child screen a swipe to delete will remove an allergy from the child. On the Allergies screen it will remove an allergy from the list of allergies known to Daybear.

Notes

Scroll down to the bottom of the notes section and select Add Note.... This will bring up a screen where you can enter text to define any information to be remembered about the child. The information can be as much as desired however only a small amount will fit onto the child screen. To see the full information the note screen can be returned to by selecting the note in the list. This will bring up the Note screen where the note can be viewed and/or modified.

Notes can be removed from a child outside of edit mode by using a swiping gesture from left to right.
