The reports screen for the Daybear app lets you define a report of the days events to send to a child's primary contacts.

Child Selection

You can select the child for a specific report by selecting the child's name in the child list.

Date Selection

You can tap on the date to select a report for a specific date. The current date is always available. If you wish to create a report for a date that is not listed you can add it with Add Report... You will then be able to select a date for the new report using the date picker.

Report Information

When you have a child and a date selected you will be able to edit a report. Reports can contain many different types of information.

Meals

You can specify meals to include in a report in the meals section. First select a meal category:

  • Breakfast
  • Morning Snack
  • Lunch
  • Afternoon Snack
  • Dinner

Next you can add meals to the category. When the app is launched for the first time there will be no meals defined. To define a new meal or remove a previously defined meal press the Edit button at the top of the Meals screen. Scroll to the bottom of the list and enter the meal you want to add into the text field and press Add. Pressing Done completes the modification. This does not add the meal to the report - it only adds to the list of meals known to Daybear. To add the meal to the current report tap it in the list so that an icon appears beside it. Tapping the allergy a second time will remove icon (and remove it from the report).

You can specify additional information about the meal by pressing the info button. This will allow you to specify whether the child enjoyed the meal or refused it in addition to the default of just eating it.

Note: In the Meals screen you can use a right to left swiping gesture to delete. This will remove a meal from the list of meals known to Daybear.

Activities

You can specify activities to include in a report in the activities section. When the app is launched for the first time there will be no activities defined. To define a new activity or remove a previously defined activity press the Edit button at the top of the Activities screen. Scroll to the bottom of the list and enter the activity you want to add into the text field and press Add. Pressing Done completes the modification. This does not add the activity to the report - it only adds to the list of activities known to Daybear. To add the activity to the current report tap it in the list so that an icon appears beside it. Tapping the activity a second time will remove icon (and remove it from the report).

Consider: When Daybear generates a report it will put I in front of each activity it includes. Remember this when creating the name of an activity. Some examples would be:

  • Went to the park (I went to the park.)
  • Joined circle time (I joined circle time)
  • Drew pictures on paper (I drew pictures on paper)

You can specify additional information about the activity by pressing the info button. This will allow you to specify whether the child enjoyed/disliked the activity in addition to the default of just participating.

Note: In the Activities screen you can use a right to left swiping gesture to delete. This will remove an activity from the list of activities known to Daybear.

Naps

You can specify naps to include in a report in the naps section. You can add the following kinds of naps:

  • Morning Nap
  • Afternoon Nap
  • Evening Nap

To add the nap to the current report tap it in the list so that an icon appears beside it. Tapping the nap a second time will remove icon (and remove it from the report).

You can specify additional information about the nap by pressing the info button. This will allow you to specify whether the child went to sleep fast, was fussy or refused to sleep entirely. You can also optionally choose to record how long the nap was by activating the switch labelled Specify Duration and picking a duration with the duration picker.

Diaper changes and Potty breaks

You can specify diaper changes and potty information to include in a report in the potty section. You can add the following kinds of information:

  • Potty
  • Diaper changed

To add the event to the current report tap it in the list so that an icon appears beside it. Tapping the event a second time will remove icon (and remove it from the report).

You can specify additional information about the event by pressing the info button. This will allow you to specify whether the child was happy or complained a lot. You can also optionally choose to record how many times the event happened.

Notes

The notes section lists any additional important information to include in the report. Go into the notes section to see a list of notes currently added to the report. Scroll down to the bottom of the notes list and select Add Note.... This will bring up a screen where you can enter text to define any information to be added to the report. You can tap Edit to go into edit mode to remove a note from a report.

Notes can be removed from a the notes list outside of edit mode by using a swiping gesture from left to right.

Send Report

iPhone example email

After a report has been created it can be sent to the child's primary contacts via email. An email will be automatically generated by Daybear and written from the child's perspective. It can then be reviewed and sent.

To send a report tap Send at the top of the reports screen. Daybear will use the primary contacts for the child to determine who the report is being sent to. An email view will appear which can be reviewed/edited prior to sending (or cancelling).

Example email text:

Mar 19, 2014

Dear Mom,

I was happy today.

I really enjoyed my cheerios, and I refused my milk for my breakfast. I had apples for my morning snack.

I really had fun when I participated in circle time, but I didn't have fun when I went to the park.

I really slept well for my 1 hour and 15 minute afternoon nap.

I had my diaper changed 3 times.

I need to remember to bring snowpants tomorrow.

Sincerely Jack
